COVID-19 Elevator Guidelines
Navigating the reopening of public facilities following the Covid-19 shutdown is new territory for property managers and the elevator industry. Based on information gathered from across industry resources, including elevator maintenance and manufacturing companies, BOMA and the CDC, below are a sample letter, lobby poster and floor decal that can be used to encourage safe elevator usage in your facility. A list of elevator safe distancing guidelines are provided below:
- Limit the number of passengers per elevator. Based on your particular property, the maximum amount of people per elevator trip may vary, but industry standards are suggesting limiting trips from 2 to 4 passengers. As a result, please inform tenants that elevator wait times may increase.
- Where applicable encourage the use of stairwells and limit traffic patterns to one direction.
- Consider staggered entry and exit times to alleviate elevator overcrowding.
- Ensure that social distancing is practiced in lobbies while waiting for elevators. Consider developing a floor plan showing ingress and egress patterns entering and exiting the elevators.
If you have any questions regarding elevator usage during re-entry or wish to have the sign customized or produced for your property, please contact Elevator Management Services at 412.263.0100 or suzanne.sieber@elevmgmt.com.
